'QUICK' QUICK GUIDE!
-------------------
First uncompress all of The Wizard's (c) Template Editor
files into one directory. Now enter TEMPLATE and press enter
to begin the Template Editor Program. Now choose LOAD Template
from the Template menu. Choose one of the templates distributed
with the Template Editor from this menu. You can try loading
them all just to get a look at them first. The databases
distributed with this version of The Wizard(c) Template Editor
are as follows:
BOOKS - For keeping track of your book collection.
MUSIC - For keeping track of Records,Tapes,CD's,Cassettes.
IMAGES - Keep track of your IMAGE files.
SOUNDS - For keeping track of your Sound files.
Now you can edit the templates by choosing the Change Screen/Fields
option from the SCREEN menu. This will allow you to move your
cursor around the screen to any object (field, line, box) previously
there and Change the location, Delete, or Edit that object; you can
do this by moving the cursor to an object and pressing enter, then
following the directions on screen. To create new objects just
place the cursor on the location that you want to define the object
at and press enter. The menus and the command line at the bottom
of the screen will prompt you for the correct information. Now you
can also simulate the screen (see how data entry will work for that
screen) by choosing the Simulate Screen option from the SCREENS
menu. You can change the order of the fields as they are entered
by choosing the Order Fields option from the FIELDS menu. When
you're through experimenting, save the template with the SAVE
Template option in the TEMPLATE menu. Now you have just changed
and created a new template that you can use with The Wizard(c) Data
Base program to enter new data with! It's that easy! You can
change screen, or data objects at any time with the Template
editor, even after you have entered data using The Wizard(c) Data
Base program! The Template Editor will automatically convert your
data for you to the new type!
NOTE: You can enter up to 25 new fields and 25 new boxes/lines per
editing session. If you exceed this amount (you'll get an error
message telling you that you can't enter any more new fields/boxes
for this template, you can save the template that you are working on,
exit the program and re-start the program. You will now be able to
enter 25 more new fields and/or 25 more new boxes/lines.
The Wizard(c) Template Editor is a companion program for The
Wizard(c) Data Base. You will find The Wizard(c) Data Base program
available on most major BBS's. It will be in a file titled
WIZARDxx.ZIP where xx stand for the current version number. You
should also obtain a copy of this file so you can try out your
newly created/edited templates.
NOTICE: This unregistered version will only operate for 5 minutes
maximum at which point you will see a message and the program
will exit.
I. INTRODUCTION
SOFTWARE INTRODUCTION
---------------------
Thank you for trying out The Wizard(c) Template Editor.
The Wizard(c) Template Editor and it's companion The Wizard(c)
Data Base will allow you to create your own Multi-Media
Data Bases! This software was born out of a sense of
perfectionism on my part. I decided to write my own software
after trying several other Data Base software packages. The
goal was to create a Data Base that would allow the user to
do several tasks that would make it easy to locate and print
data and DISPLAY graphics files and HEAR sound file
selections from the Data Base. This Template Editor was
designed to be feasible for everyone, I hope that the program
succeeds in doing that. Here are the main features of
The Wizard(c) Template Editor:
1.) Easy entry and creation of new Templates that can
be used by The Wizard(c) Data Base.
2.) Ability to size and relocate pop-up entry fields that
are used by The Wizard(c) Data Base.
3.) Auto conversion of previous data files if the data
field types are changed.
4.) Ability to move any field around the screen, and to
paint a screen, as easily as possible.
5.) Allow the user to paint a MEMO field on the screen at
any location simply and easily.
6.) Let the user change the order of the fields as they
are entered from The Wizard(c) Data Base program.
I hope that you will find it a rewarding product to work
with. Many hours were spent in the development phase and in
analyzing sound cards and video output for the IBM PC family
of computers. This software was written specifically for IBM
PC's and 100% compatibles and it will function on any
compatible machine as long as that machine is 100% IBM
compatible.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
To run this software, you will need an IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2
or compatible computer with a minimum of 640K of memory and a
hard disk.
No other software is required (except for the DOS operating
system). However, I strongly recommend that you obtain a
back up utility for your hard disk. Your data files should
be backed up any time you've made significant changes! (DON'T
FORGET TO DO THIS). A good rule of thumb is to completely
backup your data files (those ending with .DBF and . DBT)
anytime you've made more new entries than you'd want to type
over again. Your data is very important and backing it up
should NOT be neglected. I know from experience!
WHY REGISTER?
-------------
By registering this software you can will receive the
following benefits:
1.) Latest version of The Wizard(c) Template Editor
(WITHOUT the time restrictions) AND
The Wizard(c) Data Base!
2.) Printed and Bound Manual. NOTE: the printed manual
covers everything, includes an Index and a Table of
Contents and is much larger than this Quick Start
Wizard Template document. It also includes complete
beginner instructions and definitions of Data Base
terms.
3.) Free technical support for 1 year
4.) Notice of release of the next version.
